Dealing with infertility and having to undergo IVF (in vitro fertilization) is very stressful. Nothing can truly prepare you physically, emotionally, and financially the struggles you are about to endure.

IVF and meditation is how I survived the stress, anxiety, sadness, and anger of this heartbreaking journey.

Research has shown that stress impacts fertility which is why stress relief methods such as, guided fertility meditation, are highly used when undergoing IVF to have a more successful outcome.

Even if IVF was not the route you took to parenthood, whether it was through surrogacy or adoption, meditation can still help you manage all the stress that comes with it.

Your Mental Heath Matters

In a previous post, I wrote about the importance of taking care of your mental health. Even more so with this current pandemic, our new norm feels anything but normal.

Many people had canceled IVF transfers, postponed meetings with surrogate partners, or meetings with their future adopted child. Stressful times that brought about a lot of fear and anxiety of the unknown.

It is crucial to understand your journey to parenthood may be a marathon and not a sprint. You will have many days, months, or even years of trying to conceive or adopt and they may not be successful.

Taking care of yourself whether it is through healthy eating, daily exercise, taking a break, or even seeking counseling will help you manage this roller coaster ride with all its twists and turns.

IVF and Meditation

At times you may feel like this roller coaster ride is never ending. Like you are forever strapped in and the ride operator won’t stop the ride and let you out:(

Meditation is what saved me. Going through IVF and all the countless medications, shots, ultrasound scans, and medical procedures took a toll on my body – physically and emotionally. Worrying about work and the finances was also another burden to bear.

Doing daily meditation – whether it was first thing in the morning before getting out of bed, in the middle of the day during my lunch hour, or right before I went to bed – helped ground me, focus on the positives, and gave me a sense of peace and relaxation.

Just taking a moment to stop and breath, visualize love and a healthy baby, and tell myself that I can do this calmed my thoughts and emotions daily. This is what helped me get through some of my most heartbreaking moments during my IVF treatments.

How Guided Fertility Meditation Works – Circle & Bloom

Sometimes the most relaxing thing in the world is just to sit back, eyes closed, and have someone else lead you through the meditation – that is what guided fertility meditation is.

When you use guided meditations for fertility you simply listen to someone else’s words and allow them to relax you. This is definitely the easiest kind of meditation for conception and it’s a great place for beginners to get started.

The mind and body connection with the use of meditation or visualizations can reduce the effect of stress on your body.

Circle & Bloom has many guided fertility meditations that quiet the mind, focus, relax, and open the body for natural or assisted conception. This company was created by Joanne Verkuilen and joined by her sister Susan Cooke who both dealt with fertility issues and believe in the incredible power of the mind-body connection. They want to empower people on their journey to reduce stress in their lives.

Believe That You Can Conceive

I believe that I will conceive. Repeat that. I believe that I will conceive. Repeat that as necessary. When you believe and visualize an outcome, the chances of your body and mind working in sync become greater.

Stress is all around us, even more so now than ever. Managing it is key to living a healthy and joyful life. Focusing on the positives in your life rather than the negatives will definitely help you feel better, live better, and sleep better.
